NaNoWriMo Book Drive!!

The Office of Letters and Light proudly presents the first annual Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive!

All across the US, Canada, and Uk, teams of high-velocity novelists will be taking a break from bashing out their month-long masterworks to gather untold numbers of books. The proceeds from the sale of these books will expand and improve OLL’s free creative writing programs for kids and adults worldwide.

The nonprofit Office of Letters and Light provides free creative writing programs to 250,000 people in 90 countries every year. The Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive will raise much-needed funds to expand and improve OLL’s programs, including National Novel Writing Month, the Young Writers Program, and Script Frenzy. These grassroots programs—based out of living rooms, libraries, cafes, and classrooms—help kids and adults discover the life-changing joys of writing. The Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive gives participants who love OLL a great way to directly contribute to its success.

To run this book drive, we have partnered with Better World Books, a socially conscious online book store that has diverted 33 million books from landfills and raised more than $8 million for its nonprofit literacy partners by selling used and new books online. Better World Books provides the online book drive portal, sends free supplies, transports the books, and offers guidance for book drive coordinators.

This year I am a participant in the 2010 NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) writing challenge for the month of November.  I am extremely excited about this even though the idea of writing 50,000 words in ONLY 30 days kind of freaks me out.  I LOVE books! I know many of you do too, and I’m sure that you might have 1 book or 2 or even 20 books lying around or even in boxes in storage (like I do) that you may never look at again.  I am collecting gently used books for this book drive until Dec 10th so that gives you plenty of time to go through yours and see which ones you can part with 🙂

Please let me know if you do and I would be happy to get them from you! THANK YOU!
